Former Spartan Zach Randolph reportedly agrees to 2-year, $24 million deal with Sacramento

After a long, lucrative tenure in Memphis, former Michigan State Spartan Zach Randolph is moving out west. Randolph agreed to a two-year, $24 million deal with the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday, according to ESPN. In the twilight of his career, Randolph, used this late round of free agency for one more payday. Entering the off-season, the 35-year-old was up to $160 million in career earnings. Randolph played the last eight seasons in Memphis. The Grizzlies made the playoffs the last seven years, including a trip to the conference final in 2013, the highlight of what became known as the "grit and grind" era. Playing 68 of 73 games off the bench in 2016-17, Randolph averaged 14.1 points and 8.2 rebounds. In Sacramento, Randolph will give a young team a productive, physical presence in the post. He'll likely be tasked with mentoring young bigs Willie Cauley-Stein, Skal Labissiere and Harry Giles. The Kings also signed veteran point guard George Hill to a three-yea...

Grizzlies lose Z-Bo to Kings

The Sacramento Kings knew their team was too young. Though committed to a youth movement, they were reluctant to rely mostly on inexperienced players, hoping they quickly learn from the mistakes they’ll make. And the Kings have made it clear they want to change their losing culture, too. The Kings made two deals Tuesday that show they won’t be content simply letting their inexperienced players stumble through the season, reaching agreements with former Utah Jazz point guard George Hill and ex-Memphis Grizzlies power forward Zach Randolph, league sources confirmed. Hill agreed to a three-year deal worth $57 million, with a partial guarantee for the third year. Randolph agreed to a two-year deal worth $24 million. In Hill, 31, the Kings added one of the top point guards still available in free agency to go with their rookie tandem of De’Aaron Fox and Frank Mason III. Randolph, 35, a two-time All-Star, will be the Kings’ most experienced player. The Kings will have nine players...

Free agent George Hill has reached agreement on a three-year, $57 million with the  Sacramento Kings , league sources told The Vertical. Hill and his representatives met with the  Los Angeles Lakers  on Monday, but the Kings’ interest in Hill accelerated on Tuesday and the sides finalized an agreement. Haroon Syed, 19, researched potential targets online, including Elton's gig in London's Hyde Park on 11 September last year (16), the city's busy Oxford Street shopping district and royal residence Buckingham Palace.  He was caught trying to acquire weapons, including a bomb vest and a machine gun by Security Service officers posing online as fellow extremists. At the Central Criminal Court of England and Wales in London on Monday (3Jul17) Syed was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 16 years and six months, having previously admitted the preparation of terrorist acts. According to the BBC, Judge Michael Topolski QC told the court Syed wanted to carry out "an act of mass murder" and that he would therefore impose a discretionary life sentence. The court was told his web searches included ones for "packed places in London" and "Elton John, Hyde Park, 11 September". Elton's gig, which went ahead without incident, also featured ...

"Haroon Syed is clearly a danger to the public who was prepared to carry out indiscriminate attacks against innocent people," said Deb Walsh, deputy head of the Counter Terrorism Division. Syed used the internet to try and get weapons to use in a possible attack, and used social media to contact people he believed were like-minded supporters of Islamic State. In one message he wrote: "So after some damage with machine gun then do itishadi (martyrdom)... that'...

In the U.K., terror-plotters get life not millions of dollars: DiManno

LONDON — On the same day we learned that Canada is going to make a multi-millionaire out of undisputed bomb-maker and disputed — if self-admitted (lies, all lies) — U.S. soldier-killer Omar Khadr, a London judge sentenced a teenage wannabe terrorist to life in prison with no possibility of parole for 16-and-a-half years. No connection? Well, there is actually, if only because Khadr has convinced enough judicial and government authorities that he was 1) a child soldier protected by international covenants, left to twist in the Guantanamo wind by Ottawa, under both Liberal and Conservative regimes; and 2) that he was tortured whilst detained. Thus the Toronto native will be compensated large. Advocacy goes a long way in influencing public opinion, which in turn influences government response. And Khadr was the beneficiary of lawyers, human rights activists and journalists who successfully portrayed the young man as a victim of circumstances — most especially growing up in a radical...
